LFS Middle School Language Arts Teacher John Pennisi, LFS class of '97, named Johns Hopkins University (Center for Talented Youth) Sarah D. Barder Teaching Fellow for 2010!
Harry Hewson, IV, a current 7th grader at LFS, recently nominated our middle school Language Arts teacher, Mr. John Pennisi, for a teaching fellowship through the Center for Talented Youth program at Johns Hopkins University. Students enrolled in the program (several of whom are current LFS students) are able to nominate a teacher who inspires them to work hard and push themselves in school. Teachers in California, Nevada, and Maryland are eligible, and only around 10 teaching fellows are selected each year. It was just announced in December that Mr. Pennisi was named a teaching fellow for 2010. The fellowship offers him a chance to attend the CTY education conference every year where teachers from around the country present research, share stories, and problem solve issues facing teachers and students today. He also receives a monetary award which he will donate to Little Flower School. Mr. Pennisi said upon hearing he had won the fellowship, "I have been blessed and privileged to have worked in such a phenomenal school over the past four and a half years. Without my amazing students and hard-working, inspiring fellow staff members and administration, this would not have been possible. I thank each and every one of them. This award is dedicated to them all."
