Little Flower School is a Catholic coeducational elementary school serving students in Grades PreK-8. It is one of the 57 Catholic elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Washington (ADW). We follow all ADW curriculum standards, which include and exceed the Common Core standards. Little Flower School is a non-public school approved by the Maryland State Department of Education and is accredited by AdvancED.
We are located in the rural community of Great Mills, nestled in the heart of St. Mary’s County, Maryland, about 60 miles southeast of our nation’s capital. St. Mary’s County, Maryland’s oldest county, was named after our Blessed Mother and is home to just over 100,000 residents. Just a few miles away lie Leonardtown, Lexington Park (home of Patuxent Naval Air Station, the county’s largest employer), and historic St. Mary’s City (the site of the 1634 landing of the Ark and the Dove). The community is proud of its heritage and tradition as well as the innovation that has come to the community as a result of the military presence. Our students benefit from being exposed to the historical treasures of the past as well as the possibilities of the future through field trips and extracurricular activities that are made possible by our unique location.
Little Flower School is supported by three local Catholic parishes: Holy Face Church, Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, and St. George’s Church. The school’s administration consists of the principal and the administrator, who is the pastor of Holy Face Church (which shares a campus with the school). The Archdiocese of Washington requires classroom teachers to be certified in the State of Maryland. Our school community is a perfect blend of families who have been in this county for generations and families that have just arrived, bringing with them new ideas, talents, and resources. We are truly blessed!
