Family Math Night - January 2007
Little Flower School (grades 3-5) held its second Math Night at the school. During this interactive evening, children and parents spent time together talking about, investigating, and solving math activities. The session was full of math games such as Multiplication Bingo and Pizza fractions that were setup at various stations. These stations provided activities for children and parents to learn and apply key math principals while having fun doing it.
Penny Walk - November 15th, 2006
November 15th, 2006 was designated the Penny Walk day at Little Flower School. During the school year Pre-K thru 8th grade students collected pennies to meet the needs of several families at Thanksgiving and Christmas. The day was full of stacking and counting pennies spread across the gymnasium floor with some competition thrown in amongst the different classes. On this day, the pennies were counted to see how much money was raised for the charity and to identify who won the competition. Mrs. Arthur's kindergarten class placed first in the Penny Walk event. Not only did this event help need families, but the students learned a valuable lesson in understanding that even relatively small contributions can add up. LITTLE FLOWER SCHOOL STOMPING OUT A CURE FOR JUNIOR DIABETES
On Wednesday, May 10, students and parents from Little Flower School in Great Mills, Maryland raised about $9000.00 to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Approximately 200 students and 135 family members pledged donations and walked the school grounds. Funds raised help the ADA (American Diabetes Association) to further its mission to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes through research, education and advocacy.
This was the second year that students at Little Flower School have participated in the School Walk for Diabetes. The event was a success due in part to the efforts of Ms. Cindy Gardiner and Mr. & Mrs. Royer. The Walk was started by Robby and Anna Royer, whose 4-year old son Bryton’s type 1 diabetes was diagnosed 11/2 years ago. After the walk, the Royers made presentations to educate students about the disease with the objective of promoting healthy lifestyles and community service.
Little Flower School was pleased to be able to contribute to this worthy cause and looks forward to being involved again next year.
