Little Flower embraces standards-based education as a way to align curriculum with instructional and assessment practices. The school follows the standards set forth by the Archdiocese of Washington. Student-centered learning is the focus of activity in the classroom as we strive to develop lifelong learners, true to their Catholic identity.
Parents of infants, toddlers, two-year-olds, and students in Grades PreK-3 and PreK-4 receive communication through the Brightwheel app. Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade teachers communicate using Class Dojo. Parents of students in Grades 4-8 have access to Rediker Parent Portal, an online reporting system showing student progress, current grades and assignments as well as missing assignments. Parents are informed regularly of curriculum requirements and assessment results. They work in partnership with the school and their involvement with their child’s education is woven into the educational process.
Standardized testing for Mathematics, Reading, and Language is administered three times a year (fall, winter, and spring) in Grades 2-8. Testing is administered on computers and all results are shared with parents at fall conferences and at the end of the year.
Little Flower, along with the rest of the Archdiocese of Washington is accredited by Cognia. For more information, click here.
